British Phone Box - Edinburgh Greeting Card
The subject of this Edinburgh greeting card is a red British phone box. These iconic phone booths are not as common a sight as they once were but they remain beloved by many of us. If you have followed my work at all, you know that my British art frequently includes the classic red telephone box. The red itself is a notable feature as that pop of color is a great choice for decorating! I believe I read once the color was chosen to make them easy to find.
The pair of British phone boxes depicted here are from Edinburgh's Royal Mile. I passed them frequently on my trips to Scotland, but on this particular wet night, the resulting scene was just magical.
As you can see the image on this card is a selective color artwork but the original image was very nearly the same color scene. In the dark of night those stones were already quite gray. That definitely made the direction I took this scene in more obvious. The result is a really graphic image with great contrast and a brilliant red that begs to be viewed.
