Cherry Street - Montezuma Georgia Greeting Card
This Montezuma Georgia greeting card shows a view of Cherry Street in Montezuma's downtown historic district. This end of Cherry Street includes Troy's Snack Shack - a popular local restaurant and, I think, the oldest business in our downtown.
The architecture on Cherry Street and the town in general is Italianate Commercial style. Built mostly of brick this was a fairly common style for towns across America around the start of the 20th century. And I think a lot of us today see streetscapes like the one on this card and think small town Americana.
When I was growing up in Montezuma, there were railroad tracks down the center of Cherry Street. Trains would even stop in the middle of town for the crews to grab takeaway lunches at Troy's. After a train derailment in the 1980's, there was finally a push to move the tracks.
