This Montezuma Georgia tote bag features my original art depicting the old D.F. Douglass High School. The school was in operation from 1958 through 1998. The art for this was meaningful for me because my father, Charlie Tisdale, taught there for a number of years during my childhood. Some of my earliest memories are on that campus. The building still stands but this artwork depicts it as it was in its heyday.
D.F. Douglass High School was named for Dennis Fulton Douglass. Born in Augusta in 1860, Mr. Douglass was a prominent African American educator born to parents who were slaves. He eventually became the principal of the Montezuma Public School in 1906. He died in 1929 but was still well remembered and regarded when the new school was opened in 1958. I am told that when the school closed in 1998 it was the last "all black" school in Georgia. His name has had quite a legacy in our community.
The two sides of this bag include the same artwork but on one side it is a close-up view of the sign while the other side of the bag includes the full scene. If you're looking at this Montezuma Georgia tote bag, I expect you have personal connections to this school. I'd love to hear about your history with this place and what attracts you to my artwork.

How Can I Help?
It's important to me that you know you're dealing with a person rather than some large corporation. I'm Mark Tisdale and I've worked as an artist for over 15 years now. The bulk of that time selling my work on prints and other products has been a full-time job I love. Not only does your purchase keep the lights on in my world, it simply matters to me that you are a happy customer. In the spirt of the golden rule, I want for you what I want for myself when I purchase online. And at the end of the day, I hope you may purchase from me again in the future or refer me to your friends and family.
With that in mind, if there are any questions I can answer before you purchase, please contact me so that I can assist.
And yes, the same person whose art you are considering buying is the one answering emails and tracking your order after it ships. So if your order goes awry or arrives in a less than satisfactory condition, without a doubt I want and need to hear from you.
And as an artist if you like my style but don't see the specific subject you were hoping to find today, please do tell me what it is you're seeking.
