This Irish winter art print features a magical view of the Galway Claddagh in the snow. This is a bit of a flight of fancy. It was very icy and cold during my winter visit to Galway, but there was only a brief snow flurry on one night I was there. But it was my first night in Galway and an unforgettable introduction to this beautiful Irish city. On my visit to Ireland, I initially took a bus trip around to see the highlights. I had more than a month in Ireland afterward that was unplanned and that one night in Galway lured me back for more. Galway will never leave me no matter how far away I am. It was one of those places you can't help thinking, "What if I could stay here?"
This view of the Galway Claddagh in the snow features a view of the Eglinton Canal Basin with boats in the frozen-over-water. Beyond them is the Claddagh Church, Saint Mary's Priory, a Dominican church. The Claddagh history is tied to Galway but was originally separate. With no bridges, the Claddagh was a fishing village that sat across the water from Galway. Today it's part of Galway proper, but with its own unique history. The large building to the right of the church, for instance, was a 19th century schoolhouse built to teach local children ready, writing, and skills that would help them in an Irish fishing village.
This Irish winter art print seems to strike a chord with many. I don't know if it's simply down to it being a part of beautiful Galway or if it's the magical swirling snow but it's been a popular piece of art featuring Galway over the years that I've offered prints and cards of it.
