Galway's Cathedral At Night - Foggy Greeting Card
This foggy Irish greeting card features Galway's cathedral at night. Despite being relatively modern, Galway's cathedral had a really classic feel to me. With some modern touches it still had a definitive European cathedral vibe to me. And on a foggy winter night, it had an otherworldly feel to it as well. This artwork is based on my visit to Galway years ago. The fog built each day until on the last foggy day it simply never lifted. By night the streets of Galway were filled with indistinct shapes. It was moody and beautiful and simply unforgettable. To underscore how cold it was, the next morning everything was coated in ice from the freezing fog.
The figures in the streets give a sense of scale but the details that catch my attention the most are the dome and cross at the top of the picture. The cross is in near silhouette and the church dome feels as if it is hovering in the distance. There's no sense of true depth in such a thick fog.
What attracts your attention to this image featuring Galway's Cathedral at night? Does it remind you of Galway or is it simply the mood that calls you to this particular foggy Irish greeting card?
