This Montezuma Georgia art print depicts a scene that would probably feel familiar to generations of folks who called Montezuma home. This is Hill's Department store on Cherry Street. Opened in 1887, Hill's operated for three generations. The decorative tiles at the front door read Yancey Hill and there was never a need to change the name! All three generations of men who ran this family business bore the same name. Hill's was special to many and is still fondly remembered. It seems like everyone who speaks of Hill's mentions having worked there at some point in their life, and I, for one, as a child got my first suit there. The building sits empty now so I took some artistic license and depicted it in the past. Not that I guarantee this is how it looked long ago. The only photo I found showed Hill's with a green awning and the rest is my imagination.
Even if you don't call Montezuma home, I hope this has a quaint small town quality you can appreciate. But if you are from here, I hope this Montezuma art print stirs up happy memories for you.
