The subject of this Edinburgh art print is the beautiful architecture of Holyrood Palace at the foot of the Royal Mile. This is the Queen's official residence in Scotland. She spends a week at the beginning of each summer hosting events at what is officially the "Palace of Holyroodhouse." Parts of the old palace date to the 16th century but the bulk of the Neoclassical architecture is from a 17th century renovation. Like many royal palaces it started as an abbey, the ruins of which are visible on the left side of this artwork.
This Holyrood Palace print is based on a photo from my second visit to the beautiful city of Edinburgh. It was actually my first visit to Holyrood Palace which I had only seen through the gates my first time there. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but it did actually rain while I was there that day. It poured most of the time I was inside the palace and as I was leaving, the skies were clearing and the palace was reflecting in the puddles. I thought it was a beautiful contrast, the wet ground and the blue skies. I love artwork that shows rain and reflections as you'll see looking through my work, but amazing architecture reflecting is really the icing on the cake.
