House Of The Seven Gables - Black And White Salem Greeting Card
This black and white Salem greeting card features the historic House Of The Seven Gables. This Salem landmark was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, The House of the Seven Gables. Built in 1668 Colonial Massachusetts, the building was already old in Hawthorne's time. In fact, the house had been remodeled and added on to several times by the time the book was written and, in fact, no longer had seven gables. Hawthorne's inspiration was its historical appearance rather than the way it looked in his time. In the 20th century there were attempts to restore the appearance of the House of the Seven Gables to be more in line with Hawthorne's depiction in his novel of the same name.
Regardless of history and whether or not the house looks exactly as it did, I found it to be an amazing place to visit. There's a real presence to the structure and the light of a sunny winter day really made for a striking black and scene.
