The subject of this Georgia art print is the 1894 Macon County Courthouse. Built in the Romanesque style of architecture, it was constructed to replace a previous courthouse lost to fire. Local lore holds that original plans called for it to be built in stone instead of brick but the cost was too high and the building organizers settled for a granite cornerstone. It's also said that there was an attempt to move the county seat, and thus the new courthouse, to Montezuma. But Oglethorpe won out and remains the county seat to this day.
The architects for our handsome old courthouse were W. Chamberlain & Company of Knoxville, Tennessee. Plans were completed in 1893 with the building being finished the following year. The Macon County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
In my memories of childhood, the courthouse was an off-white color. It's possible when it was newly painted it had been white. Whatever the case, it wasn't nearly as pretty as it is today having been restored to its original unpainted brick exterior. It's shown in this print with red brick beneath picturesque blue skies.

How Can I Help?
It's important to me that you know you're dealing with a person rather than some large corporation. I'm Mark Tisdale and I've worked as an artist for over 15 years now. The bulk of that time selling my work on prints and other products has been a full-time job I love. Not only does your purchase keep the lights on in my world, it simply matters to me that you are a happy customer. In the spirt of the golden rule, I want for you what I want for myself when I purchase online. And at the end of the day, I hope you may purchase from me again in the future or refer me to your friends and family.
With that in mind, if there are any questions I can answer before you purchase, please contact me so that I can assist.
And yes, the same person whose art you are considering buying is the one answering emails and tracking your order after it ships. So if your order goes awry or arrives in a less than satisfactory condition, without a doubt I want and need to hear from you.
And as an artist if you like my style but don't see the specific subject you were hoping to find today, please do tell me what it is you're seeking.
