Oglethorpe United Methodist Church - Georgia Art Print
This Georgia art print features the 1894 Oglethorpe United Methodist Church in Macon County. Like many of the churches in the area, the congregation is older than the building. The history of the Methodist Church in Oglethorpe is basically as old as the city. The church bell was sent to be melted for munitions in the waning days of the civil war. However it was still intact when the war ended and was returned to Oglethorpe and still resides in the current bell tower.
I believe the architecture of the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church is essentially carpenter gothic. Certainly the pointed arch windows are of that style. Whatever the exact style, it's a beautiful and historic building and I wanted to give this print a little spirit of the past through the people shown on the sidewalk outside.
