St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church - Montezuma Georgia Greeting Card
The subject of this Montezuma Georgia greeting card is the 1930 St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church. This simple brick building on Whiteline Street is adjacent to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. This area was traditionally known as Duncan's bottom and was historically an African American neighborhood.
Although there are several churches in the neighborhood this is the oldest surviving church building. It looks un-used now but I wanted to capture it as it was in the past. It may be somewhat unimaginative, but I call the artwork on this card, Sunday Morning. The well-dressed family on the steps was a nod to memories of the Sunday ritual.
